Sculpture Symposium |

| |
The Danang Sculpture Symposium was organised to boost the cultural exchange and cooperation between Vietnam and Norway. The Norwegian Embassy in Hanoi and the Danang People’s Committee financed the event, which was co-hosted by the Danang Sculpture Project, the Danang Literature and Arts Union and the Danang Fine Arts Association.
The symposium lasted one and a half month (from 15 February to 29 March, 2006). It gave four Norwegian and seven Vietnamese sculptors an opportunity to work together, to share ideas and experiences and to better understand the art and lifestyle of the two countries. In addition the Symposium provided the carvers with a conducive environment for practising carving and English, and an exposure to two countries’ style of sculptures and working. Finally the symposium helped promote the Project, its goals and its services as well as Danang as an international centre for sculptures.
On 22 May 2006 the symposium was closed by a hand-over ceremony of 12 sculptures. These, a gift to the Danang City, are now on display at the East bank of the Han River, and represent a lasting symbol of the cultural exchange, cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and Norway.
