Training program for young carvers |

With the goals of developing sculpture in Danang city and Vietnam in general, the Danang Sculpture Foundation has aimed to train local stone carvers in modern techniques to meet international carving standards, and to facilitate cultural and technical exchanges in sculpturing between Vietnamese and other countries.
The Danang Sculpture Foundation wishes to expand its training program for young carvers. The scholarship fund is financed by donations from private persons, governmental and non-governmental organizations or companies, or from the annual profit of the Danang Sculpture Foundation. Depending on the availability of funds the Danang Sculpture Foundation will select 4 to 10 trainees per course every 2 years.
Duration: 4 years
Principal beneficiaries: Young men and women from marginalized communities in Danang and surrounding areas
Objectives: - To gain basic knowledge about the development of sculpture through history, to understand the background of contemporary sculpture and to see the role of sculpture in society
- To gain an overview of composition as the creation of sculpture, a basic knowledge about drawing, the use and maintenance of carving tools and equipment, the physical and mechanical properties of the materials most commonly used in sculpture and about anatomy
- To master techniques of carving many kinds of stones (from modeling in clay, casting in plaster to copying and enlarging sculpture in stone by traditional and modern methods)
- To practise communication skills in English
